Quilted Leaf Quilt Guild History
After 29 years, the Grant Quilted Leaf Quilt Guild is still an active and busy group. Organized in 1991, some of the earlier members are gone but we've gained many new members. We still have two charter members and some who joined shortly after. The group meets monthly - the first Saturday of each month, unless there is a holiday and then the date is moved or deleted for that month. Members are notified if the date is changed. We had been meeting at Midwest Electric in their meeting room, but since the pandemic and the need for social distancing we've been finding other places.
At this time we have 25 members and not all are from Grant. New members from Madrid, Elsie, Wallace, Sutherland, North Platte, Ogallala, and Lake McConaughy.
A year ago some of the members volunteered to help at the Nebraska State Fair at Grand Island, while others entered some of their quilts - some receiving 1st place recognition! We have some fantastic quilters and some just learning, but the more advanced quilters are more than happy to share their help and tips to those needing assistance.
We are presently making beautiful pin cushions of different designs to be used for table centerpieces at Quilt Nebraska, an annual event put on by Nebraska State Quilt Guild. One month we made wheelchair bags for residents at Golden Ours. Presently our members take turns each month taking a wall hanging they have made to Westview Retirement Community. It is hung on the wall there for the residents to admire!
At each meeting one of the members gives a lesson on some project to make, or perhaps a quilting technique that is helpful.
Once a year we have an all-day quilting which gives everyone an opportunity to finish a project or work on something new. Often times we have a "potluck" on that day!!
Other projects seem to come up or a pattern for a new quilt to make. We have a choice to make the one suggested or work on our own project. We enjoy seeing what others have made at each meeting and ideas they share. It is always interesting and fun.
You are welcome to visit and invited to join if you like to sew or quilt!

Quilted Leaf
Our Quilted Leaf Guild was organized September 14, 1991.
Thirteen joined then and thought it would be lots of fun.
New members were added - some leaving as years go by,
But each were ready to learn new projects and giving it a try.
"Show and Tell" is first at meetings and always a treat,
Seeing each one's creations cannot be beat.
Each year the Mystery Quilt adds to the fun
Not knowing the finished results until our project is done!
We enjoy 'all-day quilting' about once each year
To quilt something new - or just "catch up", I fear.
Then, of course, there's the yummy potluck at noon
And we find that the day usually ends too soon!
Occasionally a guest is invited to give a lesson,
At other meetings a member obliges - which is a blessing!
Through the years we've taken trips to Quilt Shows or shops,
Benkleman, Wray, Kearney - were among our "shop hops".
Several other times we even saw Eleanor Burns sister
Who talked and showed many quilts, and even brought her "mister"!
Lasting friendships have been made,
Skills and sewing tips have been acquired.
The talent seen by each member's work can be truly admired.
Quilting offers solitude and can relieve a person's tension,
We're grateful for the Guild, friends, years and projects too numerous to mention.
